Profiles in One for One: Josephine’s Walk for Safe Water

March 20th, 2014 by TOMS

Name: Josephine
Age: 10
Location: Rwanda
Giving Partner: Water For People

Meet Josephine, a 10-year-old girl from Rwanda. Ever since she was old enough to walk, she would spend four hours a day — every day — trekking a steep mountainside to collect water.

When fights started to break out at the water spigot, her mother had to join her for protection. Between the two of them, getting clean water took up to 28 hours of their week.

TOMS Giving Partner Water For People partnered with the local government to bring access to improved water closer to home. It’s a change that’s improved her life every day since. And it’s a story we can recreate in communities all over the world with the support of TOMS Roasting Co. purchases.
