I’m Happy to See: New York City

In such a visually stimulating city like New York, many of the kids who received new prescription glasses through Helen Keller International’s ChildSight® program and TOMS were eager to share what they were most excited to see clearly in the Big Apple.

For Angelique, an eighth grader living in Hunts Point, the Bronx, the city is full of intricate buildings. She was most looking forward to seeing the details in the skyscrapers.

“New York City is such an inspiring place because the architecture is so beautiful. Everywhere you turn, there is something new to see. Living in New York makes me think I might want to design buildings as an architect when I grow up,” Angelique said.

Ms. LaClair is a teacher at St. Igantius School, where middle schoolers are put through a rigorous curriculum to prepare them for high school and beyond. Ms. LaClair was most excited to watch the children succeed in the classroom with new prescription glasses helping them focus better.

“Without their glasses…it’s like missing a book or a pencil. You don’t have what you need every day in order to succeed or learn,” Ms. LaClair explains on the importance of corrected vision.

Anthony is a huge sports fan and couldn’t wait to watch his favorite team hit the field.

“In the Bronx, we love the Yankees. I can’t wait to watch them take on their biggest rivals this year.”
