Marketplace Feature: Azie Tesfai, Founder of Fortuned Culture

Fortuned Culture is a TOMS Marketplace jewelry brand that supports different charities from around the world. We sat down with founder Azie Tesfai to learn about her artistic inspiration and how she decides the unique give behind each piece. Where did the idea for Fortuned Culture stem from? I come from a 3rd world country. I am Eritrea, my mom’s family who I am very close with is from Ethiopia and I spent a lot of time in East Africa as a child growing up and so I was very aware of poverty. So then living in Los Angeles I…

TOMS TRIBE SOUNDTRACK

Warm lattes, passing hallway hellos, the first round of morning emails… the shuffle at the start of the day here at TOMS. You can pin a song to any moment, and kickstarting the day with a perfect melody always sets a good tone. As our internship winds to a close, we compiled some of the music that has accented our time at HQ. From relative newcomers to genre staples, this playlist covers the bases. This is our slice of California summer, sit back and press play.

A SUMMER AT TOMS: BACKGROUNDS

It’s halfway through the summer, and the Tribe has spoken. Working at TOMS is awesome. Each department is unique and colorful in its own way, bustling with energy inside of HQ. Every employee has arrived here with a story, many of which we’ve been fortunate to hear over these last few weeks. As we begin the second half of our internship, we took a second to reflect on our paths leading to TOMS and what moved us to apply for a spot within the Tribe. Carolina Amaya Hi I’m Carolina and I’m from Downtown Los Angeles, which makes me the…

Marketplace Feature: Melody Murray, Founder of JOYN

What compelled you and your husband to travel to Uganda your first summer as newlyweds? We were crazy – crazy in love and crazy dreamers. We had big dreams from the day we met. David and I grew up in amazing families with opportunities to travel, receive a good education, expand our world view at young ages. We both had a desire to give others who were less fortunate the opportunities that we had been gifted our entire lives. This is one of the main things that drew us to each other initially and still drives us closer to each…

A SUMMER AT TOMS: PART TWO

These last several weeks here at TOMS HQ have been quite the experience. Between group projects, meetings with managers, working lunches with TOMS executives, and weekly excursions to places all over the SoCal area, the schedule’s been pretty tight. No morning coffee runs or mind-numbing paper filing for us, we’re too busy working with our departments on specialized projects that each has an impact on the company. One of those fore-mentioned day trips was to the heart of the TOMS U.S. delivery system: the distribution center. Last week we all piled into the TOMS van, adorned with pictures of smiling…

Adventure Awaits

TOMS was founded on the spirit of adventure and discovery. In 2006, Founder Blake Mycoskie traveled to Argentina to learn about the culture and the people. He met a group of kids that forever changed his life, and many of ours. This season, we chose to celebrate the spirit of discovery and adventure in Guatemala. With it’s rugged topography and rich culture, Guatemala is not only a place of wonder and natural beauty, but also a place where we give in all three capacities: shoes, sight, and water. Taking us on our journey are three TOMS employees: Chad from our…

A Summer at TOMS: Part One

Summer internships are a major component in the lives of young professionals worldwide. Companies often task very specific individuals with large responsibility. As applicants, you want to learn. You want to contribute. You want to soak up as much culture and connection as possible. For nine individuals hailing from eight states, TOMS became the site of our summer internship. And from the moment we entered the door, we knew we were in store for the job of a lifetime. Every facet of TOMS is represented within the building. The walls are adorned with bright colors and rustic patterns. Meeting rooms are…

Marketplace Feature: Krochet Kids intl.

The original idea was to make enough money to pay for a hot-air balloon ride to impress their prom dates. Utilizing a skill unique to most high school boys, Kohl Crecelius, Stewart Ramsey, and Travis Hartanov started taking orders for knit items from classmates. Today, what spawned from a few creative minds and a timeless skill has developed into a full blown non-profit with programming in both Nothern Uganda and Peru. Employing more than 180 women to make hats, clothing and accessories, Krochet Kids intl. works to lift those individuals and their families out of poverty through a fair, consistent…

Marketplace Feature: One World Futbol

A few words from our friends at One World Futbol- At One World Futbol Project, we’re lucky enough to play every day. In fact, play is an integral part of who we are and everything we do. We believe that in play, every child is a superhero, dreams can be realized, traumatic moments are temporarily forgotten and healing can begin – this is the power of play. At One World Futbol Project and through our nearly indestructible ball, we are changing the game – turning the whole world into a field of play.  The One World Futbol was designed to…
