Get To Know: Lydali
- Job Creation
Meet the Founders
Where did the idea for Lydali originate?
Ali: I used to work for Kiva, an online platform that does person-to-person microlending worldwide, and I was on a trip visiting some borrowers in Bali. I ended up meeting several artisans who were making awesome jewelry and accessories but were having trouble selling them outside of their local markets. I started thinking about a way to connect people like this to thoughtful purchasers. I outlined the plan for Lydali on the long flight back from Jakarta to San Francisco.
What kind of jobs are these?
Lydia: Everything we sell helps provide reliable jobs and incomes for artisans, who are paid above-average wages and are often given the flexibility to work from home or to bring their children into work.
Ali: We typically work with artisan groups that allow people to learn and grow beyond learning a trade and creating a product. Many of our partners provide further education like business or literacy classes, childcare or flexible work environments and savings programs.
Does the word Lydali mean something?
Ali: It’s our names, Lydia and Ali, together.
