TOMS + Bridge2Rwanda pair up
Submitted by admin on Wed, 05/12/2010 - 12:21
In March 2010, TOMS traveled to Rwanda for a unique Shoe Drop, in partnership with Kris Allen, last year's American Idol winner, and Little Rock, AR-based organization Bridge2Rwanda. Although this was TOMS first Shoe Drop in Rwanda, we have been giving shoes there with another giving partner, World Vision. During the trip, in the northwest region called Shyira Diocese, we distributed 1,000 pairs of shoes to beautiful children. Kris sang and played guitar with the kids, inspiring them to laugh, smile, and dance. Candice, TOMS "Shoe Glue", recalls one boy who felt like he could finally dance like Michael Jackson... because he had shoes to do so! You can read more about Candice's perspective on an earlier blog post.
Here's a short video from the recent Rwanda Shoe Drop:

Another 32,000 pairs are on their way and will be distributed by Bridge2Rwanda volunteers and local Rwandan organizations to kids in these same communities. Our newest TOMS Family member, Doug Piwinski, was lucky enough to spend his first days working for TOMS on this Shoe Drop, and he clearly had an emotional initiation, "What I realized while in Rwanda is that all of the beautiful and amazing people I met there were connected by something bigger than any one person – the One for One movement. That's such a powerful feeling, and I can’t wait to do more."

TOMS, you guys are awesome! I had an amazing opportunity to travel to Rwanda last year and it changed my life. When I heard that you had done a shoe drop there I was so happy. I watched the video last night and I realized that you did the shoe drop at a school that I visited while I was in Rwanda. It was so awesome to see those smiling faces again! Thank you so much for all that you guys do! I know that those kids will never forget what you have done for them!
This is amazing! TOMS...you
This is amazing!
TOMS...you are awesome.
Never stop doing what your doing!!
Powerful.
That video was a very moving display of generosity in the One For One movement. I am glad to be a part of this movement and will continue to support it.
I own a few pairs of TOMS, and, even though I have never been on a shoe drop, I know that five kids have a pair of shoes because I am able to be a part of something like this.
Glory be to God and God alone though...He has put eternity in the hearts of man and we love and care for others because He first loved and cared for us.
I will continue to love and support this movement/ministry because who they are and what they stand for: loving and caring for others.

What a beautiful piece. Thanks so much for the beautiful work you all do...it is all very, very special.
I went to Rwanda last summer.
I went to Rwanda last summer. Nothing brings more joy to me....or sadness...than seeing these beautiful faces getting new shoes from the beautiful feet who bring good news (Isaiah 52:7). I wish I could have been there but am happy to say, one of those pairs of shoes comes from my latest TOMS purchase which brings me joy.

Matt 25:40b Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me. (NASB)
Our prayer is that you prosper and multiply in all you do.

praise God. awesome.
praise God. awesome.
Thank You
I just want to say that your idea of giving back is so wonderful. So much negative and hatred of people who are not as fortunate is going on in our world right now that it is always good to hear and see people doing posititve things for the less fortunate. Even though I cannot wear Tom's shoes (my foot is too wide), I appreciate the good you are doing and commend you for it....
Dang it! Now I'm
Dang it! Now I'm crying.
Amazing!
